There are a lot of benefits to having a gym membership, like variety of equipment. But there are many ways to get fit without a gym membership as well. Workouts that you can do outside or from the comfort of your own home can be just as effective. Whether you are looking to save time, money, or just wanting to switch things up, there are plenty of other options out there for those who don’t have a gym membership.
Hiking is a great way to get your heart rate up and burn calories. Getting outside and hiking is one of my favorite things to do in my spare time. If you are not familiar with any hiking trails or don’t have anyone that will go on a hike with you then check out your local hiking Facebook groups. You can get some ideas on where to start hiking and also find groups of people to hike with. Some groups are for beginner hikers and others are for advanced hikers that like a challenge.
At Home Workouts
Thanks to YouTube, blogs, and apps there are a ton of free workout routines and resources out there that you can use to guide you through an at home workout. One of my favorite free apps is the Nike Training Club app. It’s full of workouts for all different types of fitness levels and will even customize a workout routine for you based on your fitness level and goals.
Another app that I also enjoy is the Tabata app. I’m currently using the free version and its great for timing all my HIIT workouts.
I would also recommend the Tone It Up app. This isn’t a free app but it offers tons of workout videos like cardio, strength training. HIIT, boxing, and yoga. The Tone It Up trainers are very motivating and they offer live classes that you can sign up for at specific times. I think this feature is great because it makes me workout since I already signed up and committed to it.

If you have access to a pool then take advantage of it by going for a swim whenever you get a chance. Swimming is a great way to burn calories and it’s fun so you won’t even realize that you are working out. Swimming is also low impact so it’s great for people of all ages and fitness levels.
There are a lot of benefits to practicing yoga but one of the main reasons is that it’s a great workout and stress reliever. It also increases flexibility and builds muscle strength so it’s a good all over workout. Don’t be fooled by yoga’s calm and low impact moves, it’s actually pretty hard, especially as a beginner. Check out this Yoga for weight loss workout.
