I have been collecting gym equipment since I was a teenager.

Every Christmas I would ask for weights, exercise balls, yoga mats, etc.

So after many years of this I have accumulated enough equipment to no longer need a gym membership.

Not having to go to a commercial gym has not only saved me time but also has helped me get in better workouts.

Like many people, I not only have gym anxiety but I have social anxiety. So going to the gym was hard for me, especially during busy evening hours which is when I could go. I just didn’t feel like I ever got in a good workout because I was always so anxious.

There were many times when I would pull up to the gym, park, wait for a while and then leave without ever going in because I didn’t feel like being around all the people.

Now that I have my home gym I can workout whenever I want without having to worry about other people being around.

I know that sounds silly but I am sure some of you can relate.

Also, please keep in mind that it took me several years to accumulate all of this equipment so the expenses have been spread out over time.

I know not everyone can afford to buy an entire home gym at one time but buying things here and there will help you accumulate a nice home gym over time.

The Ultimate Home Gym

My most recent purchase was this home gym system (Similar).

Just so you know, this gym is not easy to build but it’s doable. It definitely takes at least two people to put together. My mom helped me put it together. We aren’t experienced in anything like this but we figured it out. I am not sure how many hours it took us but it was at least a full 10 hours with breaks in between. After lots of temper tantrums and breaks we finally finished it and it has been running smoothly ever since.

This home gym comes with a smith machine, 2 top cable pulleys, a bottom cable pulley, a machine fly, an adjustable utility bench and several attachments. The weights are sold separately.

The adjustable utility bench can decline, incline, or go flat, and has leg and arm exercise attachments.

This machine also has attachments on the outside of the smith machine so you can put a Olympic bar there for free weight exercises.

I used puzzle exercise mats underneath but if I could go back and use a few solid mats like this one I would. The problem with the puzzle flooring is that it comes apart easily. Since the machine is so heavy I can’t go fix some of the parts where the mat has separated so now it looks a little messy. Not a huge deal but if you can avoid using them I would.

Since the weights are sold separately, I purchases the Weider cast iron Olympic hammer weight set to go with it.

Here are some similar options

Gold’s Gym 50 Pound Olympic Plate Set

Olympic Weight Set 115 Pounds

You can also purchase weight plates individually if you would rather buy them over time instead of all at once.

Cast Iron Olympic 2-Inch Grip Plate

I also have this small barbell weight set 100 Lb that was very inexpensive. These are not Olympic weights so they won’t fit on this machine but it’s a great set for a small space. This set is also very inexpensive for a 100 Lbs so it’s perfect if you are on a tight budget.

I bought this set several years ago and the barbell and weights have held up very well.

I also have a TRX Suspension Training set. This is also perfect for small spaces and there are tons of different workouts you can do with this thing. Everything from abs, arms, back, legs, and booty!

I also recently got a Bosu Balance Trainer and I love it. It makes my workouts so much more challenging! It’s perfect for ab and leg workouts.

There are also tons of different workouts that you can find on Pinterest and Youtube that use the Bosu ball. They make it great for when you are short on time or just don’t feel like coming up with your own workout.

Here are some of this resistance bands I have that have held up very well.

I have a lot of random dumbbell sets that I have picked up over the years. There are so many different exercies you can do with dumbbells and they don’t take up a lot of space which makes then perfect for a home gym. Here are a few sets you can buy from Amazon.

32 Pound Dumbbell Set With Stand

50 Pound Set With Stand

150-Pound Dumbbell Set with Rack

For HIIT workouts I really love using this aerobic stepper.

For cardio I use a treadmill. Having a treadmill has made it so much easier to get my cardio in.

To store my extra weights, Bosu ball, mats, resistance bands, and attachments I use a big shelf like this one.

I put all of the weights on the bottom and the lighter stuff at the top.

That completes my home gym. Just a reminder that this took several years to complete but it was worth it. I can comfortably workout whenever I want which has been a huge help to not only my physical health but my mental health as well.

I hope this list gave you some ideas for your own home gym! As you can see besides the treadmill and home gym system there are still a tons of inexpensive options you can purchase to have a nice and effective home gym of your own that doesn’t break the bank.
