Healthy eating doesn’t come easy to most people when they are first starting to change to a healthier lifestyle. That’s why most diets fail because they tend to make people feel deprived of the food they enjoy. However you don’t have to deprive yourself to make healthy changes to your diet. There are numerous ways you can replace unhealthy foods with healthier options without sacrificing taste. So here is a list of just a few healthy food swaps that don’t suck.

Nut milk or coconut milk instead of Dairy Milk

It’s no secret by now that most cows milk that is sold in stores is full of hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides which all can mess with your body’s hormones.  This can also cause acne for some people. A great way to replace cows milk is with any form of nut milk or coconut milk.

Balsamic Vinegar Instead of Creamy Dressings

Store bought salad dressings usually contain high amounts of unhealthy fats, carbs and sugar. This can quickly turn your healthy salad into a slightly less healthy salad.  A great alternative a is Balsamic Vinegar dressing.

Lettuce Wrap Instead Of bread

I know ….. everyone loves bread but when your trying to eat healthier it needs to be limited. Even wheat bread. A great way to replace bread is by lettuce wrapping tacos, burritos, sandwiches and hamburgers. They still taste just as good but with less guilt.

Fruit Instead of Fruit Juice

Most store bought fruit juices contain a lot of added sugars and little amounts of actual fruit. It’s best just to skip the juice all together and opt for the real thing for the full nutritional benefits.

Greek yogurt Instead Of Sour Cream

Plain Greek yogurt has a pretty similar taste to sour cream. This makes it great for a sour cream substitute because its higher in protein and has less fat.

Frozen Fruit Instead Of Ice Cream

A great alternative to ice cream is any kind of frozen fruit. Chop up some fruit and throw it in the freezer overnight. Once it’s frozen throw it in a food processor to blend it up. Bananas and strawberries are a popular choice.

Zucchini Noodles Instead Of Pasta

It’s no secret that pasta is calorie and carb heavy which isn’t good for the waist line. By opting for zoodles you’ll boost your daily vegetable intake and cut major calories from your meal.

That completes this list of some healthy food swaps. I know how hard it can be to transition into a healthier lifestyle but hopefully this list helped give you some ideas on how to switch things up. Let me know in the comments below if you have any healthy food swaps to share.
